stamped “Minton & Co. Stoke-Upon-Trent Patent 08” (1808).
Salvaged from St. Ann’s Church, Brooklyn, New York.
Built ca 1844-1847.
Minton was considered the most famous and prolific manufacturer of tile for much of the Victorian era. Patented tile produced by this award-winning tile maker, based in Staffordshire, England, won numerous gold medals at international exhibitions and were considered the best of their day. Tile manufactured by Minton & Co., a trading name of Minton, Hollins & Co., were used in the Houses of Parliament, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the U.S. Capitol and many other prestigious buildings.
